/ world today news/ At 5:00 p.m. today, the deadline for submitting the documents of candidates for the post of General Director of the Bulgarian National Television to the Electronic Media Council expires. The actual voting of the five members of the CEM will take place on August 23. If the general director of the public television is not elected, the law allows the current chief Vyara Ankova to continue his mandate.
Among the requirements for the candidates for general director of BNT are the presence of experience in electronic media, as well as at least five years of work experience in television, as well as a declaration of three years of experience in a managerial position. An important condition for the presentation of the candidates is the concept presented by them for the development of public television.
The members of the CEM adopted rules for the election of the general director of BNT, according to which the candidates admitted to participate in the procedure will be announced by August 8. On August 17, those candidates who have been admitted to the hearing will be announced. This is an innovation because until now anyone who met the requirements and submitted all the necessary documents had the right to defend their concept at a public hearing. Now, however, CEM reserves the right to screen applicants in advance.
The hearing of the admitted candidates is scheduled for August 21 and 22, and the voting on August 23, 2017. A candidate who has received at least three of the votes of the five members of the Electronic Media Council is considered elected. The CEM has the right to three consecutive votes, if even then the general director of BNT is not elected, the procedure is terminated.
