Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas. – The Reynosa-Aztlán Multidisciplinary Academic Unit (UAMRA) of the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas (UAT) developed the Second International Congress of the Career of Pharmaceutical Chemist Biologist (QFB), with the purpose of strengthening the competences of its students in relevant and current topics of this matter.

When opening the event on behalf of the Rector, Ing. José Andrés Suárez Fernández, the Dr. Rosa Issel Acosta González, Academic Secretary of the UAT, highlighted the relevance of holding this virtual meeting in the Biologist Pharmaceutical Chemist Day, as a way to meet the challenges that come in the training of students.

He stressed that these challenges are derived from the COVID-19 pandemic, a framework in which the University has known how to adapt to many processes and analyze situations that impact higher education to find solutions, seeking that the student body continues to develop the necessary skills to exit to the labor market.

At the beginning of the program, which took place on December 1 and 2, the Dr. Efrén Garza Cano, Director of the Reynosa-Aztlán Academic Unit, offered a welcome message to the participants and thanked the Coordination of the Chemist Pharmaceutical Biologist career for organizing the congress, which is part of the activities of the XXI Academic Week of QFB.

He specified the objective of encouraging students and graduates, as well as professionals in the health area, to update and continue education, achieving links with national and international researchers.

The event had the participation of speakers from countries such as: Argentina, Colombia, United States, Peru, Uruguay, Spain and Mexico.

The inaugural presentation “Beyond external quality control”Was given by two scientists from the Colombian quality control company Proasecal: Martha Lucía Uzeta Enciso, specialist in medical microbiology; and Clara Morales Camargo, expert in bacteriology and clinical laboratory.

During their intervention, they assured that this type of event is important not only for students at the moment they are going through, but also for graduates, in strengthening relevant academic training in medical issues.

They explained that external quality assessment is a system to verify, objectively, the performance of the microbiology laboratory through an external institution.

They said that this external quality control should be more than statistical data, since it is important to permanently monitor equipment, culture media, reagents, among other actions that allow to tackle viruses that could affect communities in a timely manner.

Among the topics taught include presentations such as: “Importance of standardization and quality assurance in the preanalytical process”, by Dayana Juica Puente, from the Institute of Management and Certification for Quality of Peru; “A career in pain: exploration, resistance and collaboration”, by Dr. Alfonso Romero Sandoval, Wake Forest School of Medicine, North Carolina, USA.

Likewise, the topic “Bioavailability and bioequivalence studies. Patents, original, generic and copy ”, by Dr. Martha Vázquez, from the University of the Republic of Uruguay; and the conference “Mycosis associated with COVID-19”, by Dr. Alexandro Bonifaz Trujillo, from the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
