A new Corona regulation comes into force in Baden-Württemberg today. After that, a mask no longer has to be worn in local transport. But in Rhineland-Palatinate it is – for now.
On January 31, the Baden-Württemberg state government all Corona rules that the country can decide for itself. Then only the Corona measures of the federal government apply. After three years, the mask requirement in local public transport (ÖPNV) is no longer applicable.
RLP: Only from Thursday without a mask on the bus and train
In Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse, however, the mask requirement is two days longer. Here you can only travel mask-free on buses and trains from Thursday, February 2nd. The same applies to long-distance transport. Here, too, you still have to wear an FFP2 mask on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Mask on at the national border!
It gets bizarre when it comes to “cross-border” traffic between Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate: For example, if you drive from Mannheim to Ludwigshafen on January 31st or February 1st. You would have to put on the mask while driving across the Rhine. In the other direction you should get rid of the mask if you drive into Mannheim.
In Baden-Württemberg, masks will no longer be compulsory in local transport from January 31st. In Rhineland-Palatinate only on February 2nd. What to do on the bus and train between Mannheim and Ludwigshafen?
Wear a mask voluntarily
Even if the obligation to wear a mask on the bus and train is no longer applicable, that does not mean that you can no longer wear one. The mask still protects you and others from the corona virus or cold viruses. So there’s nothing wrong with continuing to wear one on public transport, even if you no longer have to.
