On this occasion, as a tribute, the first theatrical manifesto is shared, written by Hugo Blotta in 2018.
THEATER MANIFESTO 2021
40 years ago, the national actress Iris Marga inaugurated the 40th Provincial Theater Meeting in the Roque Sáenz Peña Presidency, saying “The theater is a dying person who must never die …”.
The theater evolved from the ritual, when it danced asking for good hunting and a lot of rain there when history was not yet written, to the Greek and Roman stages where the masks protected the scathing denunciation of the comedians to a modernity that unfolded it in hundreds of ways It seemed that the cinema and the radio would finish giving the coup de grace, but the theater survived, the television seemed to be the definitive scaffold but the theater continues.
Our Chaco theater was nourished by the traditional activity of immigrant groups where the theater was seeded with vocational passion. The vocational, is an artistic activity possible without a vocation? It was a time of many rehearsals and few performances, but that was the end, to get together, to be a community, to be a group.
The dawn of the 60s marks a different awakening in the country where the profession is glimpsed beyond General Paz. The National University of the Northeast is home to those who would sow the germinated seed that today struggles to survive. Profess, profession, vocation, vocation, passion.
Independent theater, or independent theater? We depend on the public, we depend on finding the correct story and the correct way to tell that story, we depend on a reality that changes daily and forces us to change with it, we depend on not closing the message, leaving out the other living being of this inseparable duo “spectator actor”. Without one the other does not exist, their unique existence has no purpose, we depend on always keeping our viewer expectant. For the duo to multiply expectantly. Without Actors there is no function, without an audience either.
The theater is a living event, which takes place here and now and that is the secret why no one has been able to sign his definitive death certificate. Let’s innovate, modify, investigate, incorporate technology, dismantle the structured. Let’s not forget that we are a duo. Let us respect the expectant, let us think of the expectant, let us enjoy their presence. Let’s train our art, let’s train spectators. Without expectant children there will be no expectant adults; without children and without expectant adults the theater will eternally agonize. Let us know that we live in a collective world and that no one is saved alone. Success is contagious, failure too.
I speak out in favor of the collective, I speak out in favor of enjoying my colleague’s success and taking his failure as a warning, I speak out for being an actor, director, playwright or technician, 24 hours a day. I demonstrate for solidarity.
