If you are from the O’Higgins region, or even more so from Rancagüino, you should know that every year on August 15, no matter if it rains, is a long holiday, or is bright, the blue doors of the Diario El Rancagüino workshop located on Campos Street open around noon to welcome all those who want to celebrate another year of their environment.
An institutional tradition that was born when this newspaper company celebrated its first anniversary more than a century ago.
“Ever since I can remember, I have participated in the anniversaries every year, where everyone has had a new and different emotion; I don’t know what’s special, but no two are the same. I am thinking of the newspaper workers, who make it possible with their hands and intelligence for this newspaper to go out and reach thousands of readers. The people behind the news are the ones who are forging this medium every day. This tribute is for them,” explained our former director Héctor González more than 20 years ago, words that are still more relevant than ever today.
And this year the tradition continues, today, August 15, 2024, at around 12 noon, the doors of our newspaper will open to welcome all those who want to celebrate with us, who work day after day to be able to deliver the best local information about O’Higgins. It is a somewhat atypical ceremony, without great protocols to which no one is invited, but where everyone is welcome. There is still time for you to join us.
Today we are over 100 years old, we are celebrating 109, but in just a decade the media has grown a lot, we have a renewed website, we are present in various social networks with a large following and we are a regional and national reference for various information, but now with global reach. But most importantly, we continue to support our neighbors, the inhabitants of our beloved region, as we did on the first day. We have supported the construction of the regional identity, monitored the actions of the authorities and the good actions of companies, mourned our dead and our tragedies and celebrated the triumphs and victories.
Rancagüino has been, continues to be and will be the book of life of our region and the support for the dissemination of good ideas.
Today, on a new anniversary, we want to continue to reaffirm the importance of independent and truthful regional media, so that we can reach our 200th anniversary with even greater strength and be able to say that our media continued to grow along with our region.
