This Sunday, August 8, International Cat Day is celebrated. But it is not the only celebration of the year. The kittens are the only animals that are celebrated three times a year! The other two dates are February 20 and October 29.
Cats, although they are rejected by many people, not because of evil, but because of allergy to the hair of this animal, they have also been welcomed in many homes for more than 10,000 years.
WHY IS IT CELEBRATED ON AUGUST 8?
This date was set by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) because it is the time when cats are most likely to be in heat in the Northern Hemisphere.
In order to raise social awareness of the importance of sterilizing pets to avoid overpopulation of the michis and, above all, that with unwanted litters, avoid cruel abandonment or violence against them.
WHY ARE YOU CELEBRATING ON FEBRUARY 20?
This date is dedicated to a special person who lived in the White House. It was nothing more and nothing less than the mascot of the President of the United States of America, Bill Clinton. His name was Socks Clinton, a cat adopted in 1991. When Clinton assumed the presidency in 1993, Socks became very famous because he appeared at the US president’s press conferences.
Socks was part of the Clinton family for 18 years, until cancer was detected and he was euthanized on February 20, 2009. Very painful for the Clintons. Given this, and to promote an adoption campaign with these animals, the International Cat Day was established.
AND WHY OCTOBER 29?
Colleen Paige, an expert on the behavior of cats, asked that this date be established in order to raise awareness of the population about the high number of kittens abandoned on the streets and to place 10,000 in homes during each celebration. It is the most important date in Europe to recognize them.

A CAT LOVER SAYS WHY A PET MININO
People don’t know them as they are. There is a lot of affinity, they are free, but loving. They are when they want, but they are faithful. They are elegant, they are with you. They are excellent company. They know when you are sad, angry, happy, or sick.
WHAT DO CATS REPRESENT?
Marcela Hernández Montiel, Holistic Therapist and DigitalMex collaborator, says that the cat represents audacity, flexibility, intelligence, mystery, secrecy, intuition. Cats are said to pick up signals and vibrations from other levels, which we as humans cannot perceive. Cats tend to show signs of change where flexibility and adaptation are important.
Marce calls him The King of Mystery. Cats see things, perceive things, feel something that we are unable to observe … and they protect us.
