Today begins the Lunar New Year and on this occasion the revered animal is the Rabbit.
Some New Yorkers celebrated yesterday with a parade in Flushing, Queens.
The parade attracted thousands of people in vibrant costumes, many floats, dances, and traditional Chinese celebrations.
This Sunday, the Health Commissioner, Ashwin Vasan, published a message on twitter that encouraged New Yorkers to participate in this celebration, without fear of misleading information about the Coronavirus that is being discussed in different ways.
Today our city is celebrating the #LunarNewYear parade in Chinatown, a beautiful cultural tradition with a rich history in our city. I want to remind everyone to enjoy the parade and not change any plans due to misinformation spreading about #coronavirus. https://t.co/bwCnIb7j8H

The parade marched from Union Street between Northern Boulevard and 37th Avenue… to Main Street.
Lunar New Year is celebrated in China and many South Asian countries, including Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore.
