Format – 24 nations take part in the preliminary round: 16 of the 18 teams (2 are in fact wild cards) ranked from 3rd to 18th place in the 2021 Finals – including Italy – and ten nations that qualified in the World Group I 2021. At the Finals 2022, Russia and Croatia (finalists of the 2021 edition) and Serbia and Great Britain (wild cards, selected from the teams ranked from 3rd to 18th place in 2021) are automatically qualified. The winning teams of the preliminary round (4 and 5 March 2022) they will qualify for the Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals 2022, joining the 2021 finalists and the two wild cards so as to compose the 16 participating nations’ fight (no longer 18).
