Today 14,000 Janssen vaccines expire and to use them they reduce the requirements for travelers

This Thursday A batch of 14,000 Janssen vaccines from Johnson & Johnson in Santa Cruz expires and in order not to have to discard a large number of doses, the Departmental Health Service (Headquarters) relaxed the requirements to apply this inoculant to people who intend to travel abroad, in addition to increasing immunization points.

This is the second time, since the campaign against the coronavirus began in the country, that batches of inoculants have expired. On October 31, a batch of AstraZeneca vaccines also died in several departments, including Santa Cruz.

On that occasion, as an emergency measure, the Ministry of Health decided to use the immunizer as the third dose, but even so, it was not possible to apply all the doses.

Both the AstraZeneca and Janssen vaccines arrived in the country as a donation.

Flexible requirements

Throughto Janssen vaccines, the Headquarters determined yesterday to reduce the requirements for applying these doses to travelers to three: the presentation of simple photocopies of the identity card, the certificate of the last vaccine applied and a letter addressed to the Headquarters director, in which the dose is requested and it is communicated that the bottle where you intend to travel has already been reserved. With this, the initial requirement to present a photocopy of the ticket or the reservation of the passage is omitted.

In addition, since yesterday the dose has been applied at the facilities of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), located in the third ring, between Beni and Germany. Initially the procedure was carried out in these offices, but the application of the doses was carried out in the Center of Medical Specialties of the Uagrm. This center continues to be enabled.

The infectologist Juan Saavedra indicated that the best measure that could be taken to prevent these vaccines from being discarded is to allow them to be used as a third dose to all the population they want.

In this regard, the manager of Urban Networks of the Santa Cruz Government, Jorge Quiroz, indicated that the request was made in a timely manner before the Ministry of Health, but this instance did not give the authorization.

Country

The national director of the PAI, Max Enríquez, indicated that until yesterday La Paz and Santa Cruz had the highest number of unused Janssen doses, while in Pando, Cochabamba and Oruro they had already exhausted them.

Enríquez indicated that it was possible to apply 96% of these doses that arrived in the country in July, so he would be at risk of discarding 4% of the total, which is within what is allowed, because according to international standards, all vaccines have a loss factor of 10%.

In the case of Santa Cruz, Quiroz justified that they received these vaccines already thawed, thereby shortening their time of use. “If you had the correct cold chain, these vaccines would expire on January 22. However, because the freezing was not respected, these vaccines expire tomorrow (today) ”, he observed.

36 centers reopen

TFollowing the multisectoral strike, the 36 vaccination points in the capital city have been operating since yesterday. In all, both first and second doses of the different vaccines are available.
