The American country star Toby Keith has passed away.
In a statement on the artist’s website and his social media it reads:
“Toby Keith passed away peacefully yesterday, February 5, surrounded by his family. He fought with grace and courage. Please respect his family’s wishes for privacy during this time.”
Since 2022, the country singer has been battling stomach cancer, but still continued to perform during his treatments, according to NME.
Toby Keith made his album debut in 1993 and is known, among other things, for the singles Should’ve Been A Cowboy and Red Solo Cup. In the latter part of his career, he was also noted for supporting Donald Trump, and was awarded The National Medal Of The Arts by the former president in 2021.
In an interview with KWTW from January this year, Keith commented on his cancer diagnosis and said, among other things:
– Cancer is a roller coaster. You just wait for it to go away, but it may never do.
Toby Keith turned 62 years old.
