If there are no appeals, VNĪ will sign a contract with the entrepreneur and construction will start in the coming months, informs Renārs Griškevičs, Chairman of the Board of VNĪ.
Construction the plan envisages the development of the territory of the Miera Street Tobacco Factory quarter in several stages. The development of the quarter will start with the entrance node – Creative Industries Incubator and Latvian Academy of Culture Construction of the National Film School, as well as a separate filming pavilion, renovating and improving the public space 1019 m2 area and public buildings 1667 m2 area. In the first stage of the quarter’s development, the buildings where they are currently located will not be affected The new Riga Theater.
In the 2nd stage of development of Miera Street Tobacco Factory quarter, it is planned to develop premises more than 8000 m2 creating facilities for the study process of the Latvian Academy of Culture, including the study program “Contemporary Dance” and “Performing Arts” and the Cinema / Photo Museum (Riga Film Museum, Latvian Museum of Photography).
“The large number of tenders received by construction contractors – a total of 17 who applied for procurement – creates confidence in the professionalism of the capital company by developing clear requirements and organizing the procurement procedure. The trend of the last six months – the growing number of bidders’ applications in public construction procurement in general is a positive signal for the industry and its sustainability, ”R. Griškevičs believes.
The project is financed from the funding allocated for the specific support objective “To promote the revitalization of the city of Riga by ensuring the efficient socio-economic use of the territory” of the Operational Program “Growth and Employment” (85% is ERAF funding, 15% is a state budget contribution).
In parallel with the development of the Tobacco Factory quarter, VNI is implementing the creation of two more creative quarters. Nearby, by rebuilding the former building of the Riga Light Industry Technical School in Riga, A. Briāna Street, modern prototyping workshops “Riga Makerspace” will be created, adapting the premises of the Riga Secondary School of Design and Art and Latvian Academy of Arts needs. In the vicinity of Šķirotava on Meirānu Street there will be a VSIA “Latvian National Opera and Ballet ”performing arts decoration workshop complex.
It is planned to put into operation construction works in three quarters in the vicinity of Riga city in the autumn of 2023.
Last year, 17 development projects with a total budget of 29.5 million euros were completed under the leadership of the VNI in the conditions of the pandemic; under its leadership, work continues on 43 different construction sites of national importance with a total project budget of 156 million euros.
