Toasting with the Cudogham family from A House Full: ‘To a New Life’

Jazz has been living happily with his parents Iven and Cynthia in Amsterdam for 21 years. Now the time has come: Jazz is moving to Zaandam, to an apartment where almost all of Cynthia’s family has lived.

Distribute tasks

There is a lot to be done, but luckily the whole Cudogham family helps out. Father Iven puts Jazz in charge. ‘It’s Jazz’s house, he has a plan. Just tell him where you want everything.’

Still, Iven can’t resist handing out some tasks himself. One person cleans the paint off the floor, another removes the moss from the balcony, and yet another puts the sofa in the right place.

‘Fast forward,’ says Iven enthusiastically. ‘The little kids have a shorter attention span. If they start making things complicated, it won’t be fun for anyone.’ They keep the atmosphere going admirably well.

To do the shopping

While Iven and Cynthia continue working in Jazz’s new home, he is on his way to the supermarket. The fridge needs to be filled and dishwashing liquid and toilet paper are also essential when you are going to live on your own for the first time.

‘Why has this all become so expensive?’ Jazz wonders out loud. Luckily, his parents give him these groceries, ‘but I work and I get student finance, so all in all, the groceries will be fine later.’

On a new life

Once home, Jazz is in for a surprise. His little home is almost finished and his lovely family is ready with a bottle of bubbles. Time to toast. ‘To a new life, a new beginning!’
