To vaccinate or not? – 2024-04-15 15:19:49

/ world today news/ About 3 thousand people lost the battle with Covid-19 within the month of October alone. And only 23% of the Bulgarian population is vaccinated.

The arrival of the vaccines against Covid-19 in Bulgaria at the end of last year seemed to show the light in the tunnel that will lead us to the end of this pandemic. People lined up for vaccines, and there was no organization of the immunization process by the authorities. The adequate information campaign was also missing. From there, a field was given for the expression of the anti-vaxxer currents. Conspiracy theories and superstitions that they can chip us, change human DNA, that vaccines lead to infertility, that they are made too quickly, that the Green Certificate limits our freedom, or that testing children can damage them mentally. Still irrational reasons that some people could grasp onto. And for them to be ridden by different political figures. A number of unfounded protests in front of various institutions, ministries, in front of the presidency. There is no clear answer to the question “why”.

Believing in conspiracy theories, however, will not help this virus go away. Science has proven that many diseases and infections have been defeated thanks to vaccines. And about Covid – Covid is long before we know about the one that brought us the pandemic. Vaccines against coronaviruses were developed long ago. Yes, vaccination is an act of personal choice. But, should we come to this choice only when we need a “green certificate”? After the announcement of this measure, suddenly, after months of empty immunization stations, they were filled again, and queues of people wishing to be vaccinated continued from morning to evening. The green certificate is a good solution in order not to paralyze the country and the economy. You will say “The green certificate does not limit contacts between people”, “vaccines do not protect us from getting infected”. You are correct in both cases. However, if we have to look at the statistics, over 93% of those who died within 24 hours were not vaccinated. Most often, the deceased vaccinated are elderly and/or those with accompanying diseases. And with the spread of the particularly contagious Delta variant, the possibility of infecting such risk groups increases. This also increases the number of deaths. I will not give any more statistics, nor will I explain how the immunization process is going in other countries. However, should we continue to see the full Covid wards on the news every day, read the gloomy statistics and tremble if we will be closed again? And what do we do then? Well, I’m sick of it too. Maybe if we didn’t have so many vaccines, people would kill themselves to get one. Because there isn’t. Unlike some other countries, however, there are vaccines in Bulgaria, and they are of all types. It gets to the point that we donate some of them, and others are even scrapped. Aren’t we overindulged and spoiled? In many European countries people can’t choose which vaccine they get, but we can. Many European countries long ago imposed Green Certificates in almost every aspect of life, accepted it and already forgot about Covid. And we are still protesting. Yes, we have the right to personal choice. We choose our future. But must we once again be last in line for Europe and first in the black statistics?
