Trusting in the support of the Puerto Rican people, CAP Foundation will hold on April 14 the second virtual edition of the massive hair donation and shaving, called Pass the challenge machine.
Participants have the options of shaving their heads or donating a hair bow (eight inches), uploading their photo or video on social media by tagging CAP and making a donation through fundacioncap.org, ATH Móvil (DONATE / CAP button) or PayPal.
The goal is to raise $ 300,000 to build its therapeutic park, for children with cancer patients at the Pediatric Hospital, in the Medical Center. Blueprints and project design were donated, but must pay for labor.
When a child is diagnosed with cancer, it begins with hospitalizations that can last from weeks, to months, or a year. Due to the pandemic, they now have to be locked in their rooms, which creates tension.
Studies say that being in nature helps minimize stress, which helps increase healing rates. That is what we want the children to feel comfortable and calm, that in the hospital they share with their friends in a more pleasant environment “, said the psychologist Carenín Cordero.
Construction will begin in the summer with a view to releasing it in September, Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. The same will locate in a field adjacent to the hospital.
“This park is not recreational and responds to the psychology program. It is an open-air space for exercise and psychological therapy ”, explained Nydia Fernández, executive director of CAP, to THE SPOKESMAN.
Pass the challenge machine is a virtual alternative to its well-known Joining Heads event that is face-to-face and could not be held last year or the present due to the Covid emergency.
The CAPtains of this edition are the journalists Jorge Gelpí Pagán and Mónika Candelaria, from Noticentro at dawn on Wapa TV; and the patient children Corangelys Alicea Martínez and Jasuel Castro.
“I have already started my recruitment. Choose your own captains in your family and work, and we are going to move the masses because any type of donation is important for the services to be provided, ”urged Candelaria, who will use her voice to promote the message.
For his part, Gelpí is willing to shave for the third time.
“Our commitment is to unite them all, they have to help us to make history on April 14 for Puerto Rican children and the Pediatric Hospital, so that they do not have to leave the country to receive services”, urged the anchor man, before adding ” I make my hair available, you set the price ”.
The public can contribute by buying the shirt from Monday in I saved myself, to use it on April 14, which they hope to make the largest CAPsual Day on the island. It will also be available at fundacioncap.org and at the CAP store in Plaza Las Américas (from March 15). Plus, you can get promotional items for $ 1.00 at Always 99, Popeyes, Exentrix, and Econo.
