The Suns start the game strong thanks to the address of the trio Chris Paul – Devin Booker – Mikal Bridges but 9 points from Marcus Morris (16 points) allow the Clippers to stay in contact (17-16). The entry of Cameron Payne changes the situation, however. Unchained, the substitute leader catches fire and scores eleven points including three long shots to explode the defense of Los Angeles (39-25).
Fortunately for Ty Lue’s men, Paul George takes matters into his own hands and he scores the last 15 points for his team to keep them in ambush (39-31).
Paul George holds the Clippers at arm’s length
After Cameron Payne, Frank Kaminsky takes over to keep the Clippers at bay. He also scores 11 points and the gap goes back above 10 points (53-39). Rajon Rondo’s vista allows Los Angeles to start again in the right direction. The leader finds Ivica Zubac (14 points) several times under the circle to throw a 10-0 (53-49). Whenever Los Angeles gets closer, the Suns find a way to get back to sea. This time, it is the pair Booker – Kaminsky which prevails and Phoenix returns to the locker room at +10 (63-53).
After shooting more than 50% in the first half, the Suns finally come up against the defense of the Clippers and Reggie Jackson brings his own to -6 (68-62). Faced with the difficulties of his team, Chris Paul takes his responsibilities. He scores seven points in a row to continue to keep Los Angeles at bay (79-69). The yo-yo continues, however, Marcus Morris and Rajon Rondo launch a 9-2 which brings the Clippers to -4 for the first time since the first quarter, but Devin Booker responds (86-80).
Chris Paul takes care of everything
Los Angeles’ momentum continues early in the fourth quarter. The Mann – Batum – Rondo trio takes action and here is the Clippers at -1 (91-90). Both defenses go up a notch but as against the Knicks, Chris Paul is decisive. He scored ten points almost in a row to allow the Suns to regain a nine-point lead with less than two minutes to play (103-94). Despite a start from Paul George, mass is said and the Suns consolidate their second place and keep the pressure on the Jazz.
CP3 was well supported by Devin Booker (21 points) and by the duo Payne – Kaminsky, author of 28 points off the bench. The Clippers were able to count on five players with ten points or more, behind the 25 points of Paul George but the domination of the rebound of Phoenix made the difference.
