To lose weight – experts reveal the best time to go to the gym

A new study has revealed that going to the gym in the evening – from the afternoon until midnight – is more suitable for weight loss than going in the morning.

And it turns out that exercise at this particular time disrupts insulin resistance, which leads to weight gain of over a quarter, according to the British newspaper “Daily Mail”.

Experts from Leiden University Medical Center believe that exercise in the evenings helps control weight and reduce the chances of developing type 2 diabetes.

Insulin resistance occurs when muscle, fat and liver cells struggle to respond to insulin and are unable to easily extract glucose from the blood, causing more sugar to build up in the bloodstream.

The researchers looked at around 7,000 people between the ages of 45 and 65, the vast majority of whom had a BMI of 27 or more, meaning they were overweight or obese, in parallel with another ideal weight group.

A blood sample was taken from the participants after exercise, in order to measure blood glucose and insulin levels during fasting and after eating.

Participants were asked about their sensory pattern and a random sample of liver fat was taken for MRI examination.

The results revealed that spending a moderate amount of time in physical activity in the evening helped reduce liver fat and insulin resistance by 18-25% compared to exercising at another time.
