The Othon IliopoulosMember of State of SYRIZA-PS and head of Hellenism Abroad, made an intervention, on Friday, March 15, on the show “Without Make-Up” of ATTICA TV, to the journalist Giorgos Houdalakis, commenting on the resignations of Ms. Asimakopoulos, the Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and another party official of the ND, following their admission of a violation of the personal data of Greek citizens.
Othon Iliopoulos underlined once again that the Apodimon Section of SYRIZA-PS was the first to point out and denounce this illegal act. The three resignations, he added, are an admission that there was bribery, which subsequently made these three people feel politically “exposed”.
The Member of Parliament clarified that the parties and candidates are entitled to have access to the electoral rolls only during neutral election time and that under no circumstances can they have access to the contact details of those registered in them. Consequently, he underlined, the violation is double and concerns both the time of use and the content of the electoral rolls.
The head of the Hellenism Abroad section of SYRIZA-PS demanded that the results of the investigation announced by the Ministry of the Interior be made known officially, through the mouth of his political superior. Of course, he added, I would expect the resignation of Ms. Kerameos herself, as I cannot understand how those who resigned acted voluntarily without the Minister’s approval.
It is inconceivable, he emphasized, that in a government that is one of the most centralized, where the EYP reports directly to the prime minister’s office, the next level of its executives act of their own accord, without having any relation to the political leadership, and then they are dismissed as a purgatory move.
Othon Iliopoulos concluded his intervention by saying that it is not a question of personal revenge, but what interests him is to ensure that the European elections will be held for all parties on equal terms and even more to ensure that the process of postal voting but also in In general, the electoral process of the European elections will be unalterable and watertight.
We must ensure that there is no questioning or irregularity, because otherwise it is a blow to our democracy. What we seek as SYRIZA-PS is the shielding of democracy against the arbitrariness of the ND.
