To do: La Soureille d’Izarne

The path to the summit of La Soureille d’Izarne is quite steep but the effort is rewarded with superb views as far as the Pyrenees on a clear day. The progression on the ridges requires a little attention but without dizzying passages. The rest of the route is without difficulty.

Description of the excursion

Park in the car parks along the main road of Cabrières (D15) or possibly in the car park of the cooperative cellar.

(FROM) With your back to the cooperative cellar, continue on the D15 for a hundred meters then take a paved path on the right, in the direction of the Domaine du Temple.

(1) Leave the masonry path on the right and continue left on the paved road.

(2) Do a PR® to the left which climbs a steep rocky path to the summit of the Soureille d’Izarne. Pursue the PR® ignoring subsequent departures to the left. Pass in front of a ruin continuing straight.

(3) At the next crossroads, which leads to a field of vines, take a path on the left, climb it up to a block of stone which must have supported a signpost.

(4) Take a path on the right along a field of vines.

(5) At the end of it, leave the path on the left and take a path in front. Continue along its main axis up to the Col du Terme, a flat area where the slopes cross.

(6) Take the path to the right, marked by a sign prohibiting access to vehicles. Keep going until you meet a PR®.

(7) The descent begins completely to the right, signaled by a blue-painted signpost bearing the mention “Lauriol”.

(8) At this crossroads, leave the path to the left towards the small hamlet of Lauriol and continue on the PR® without taking the path to the right towards the ruins of Tiberet (or plan a round trip). Keep in the same direction and continue for about 150 m beyond the entrance to the Temple domain.

(9) Crossroads to the left then immediately to the right to take a track previously parallel to the PR®, then deviating from it uphill, to finally find it a little further on. Follow it to the left.

(10) At this crossroads, turn right, leaving a marked path and continue until the private entrance of an estate.

(11) Continue PR® along a field of vines from its top to a light signal called “Les jardins de Norbert”. Lean right with the PR®.

(12) Leave the PR at the crossroads® which continues to the right and goes opposite on a very pleasant path. They will cross later with the possibility at this crossroads to go up to the right towards the ruins of the castle. Continue PR® to the village which is reached by the Route des Crozes which then becomes Rue de l’Égalité.

(13) Turn right onto Rue de l’Eglise to join the main street at the town hall. Turn right again, and follow the road past the cooperative cellar to find the parking area (FROM).
