The “Culture for All” workshop met in the stable of the City Museum

Kaiserslautern, October 17, 2022

Develop creativity and therefore also the ability to innovate through cultural education – this, in short, was the goal of the “Culture for all II” workshop, to which the Department of Culture and the Education and Voluntary Office had invited in the stable of the Kaiserslautern City Museum.

As the title suggests, the workshop followed a first meeting in autumn 2019. And again, social, educational and cultural educators met to exchange ideas and develop ideas for cultural education projects. “Children and young people can be enthusiastic about such concepts and receive full support,” said Mayor Beate Kimmel, who opened the event with some introductory words and has long been campaigning for cultural education projects. You were also able to bring the good news that the Globus Foundation had deemed the “CREACT” program conceived by the Department of Culture worthy of funding. Funds are now available for next year to implement cultural education projects in the urban landscape.

At the beginning of the work phase, the artist Izabella Koch presented her concept of “art travel in nature”, which emerged from the first workshop and is now successfully implemented in kindergartens and some elementary schools in the city. Koch identified awareness and awakening of children’s creativity as important aspects of the course.

Creativity was also required of the workshop participants, because they were able to develop project lines for music, theater, literature, dance and painting. Four concepts were developed during the intensive work phase.

At the table with the focus on “music”, the idea of a show by and with preschool children was born. At the theater and dance themed table, another show entitled “The adventure of the animals” was created. The idea of a map exhibition curated on the local district of Mölschbach, which this year celebrates its 800th anniversary, was born under the main theme of literature and painting. In the “Waldwichtel” nursery school located there, the anniversary of the “Back then – Today – Tomorrow” project could stimulate the creation of a historical map and an imaginary map of the local community.

Eventually, the participants agreed that the atmosphere of the barn had a stimulating effect. In his summary, the head of the cultural department, Christoph Dammann, was struck by the resulting sketches. According to Dammann, the next step is to further expand these projects and make them a reality over the next year as part of “CREACT”.
