To counter violence against women, 1,000 small “MonShérif” boxes activated in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region has announced the acquisition to combat violence against women of 1,000 alert buttons, a connected device that can be activated discreetly.

These small mechanisms, not very visible and connected, allow when they are activated to send a geolocated SMS to five relatives simultaneously. They also record noises and detect falls, specifies in a press release the region, which is pleased to be the first to acquire this device.

An experiment already carried out in different departments

“Their capacity for recording and detecting falls will be able to obtain material elements during legal proceedings when very often these are lacking in cases of domestic violence,” she argues.

This experiment, already carried out in various departments in France, will be developed in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes “in partnership with associations from across the territory such as France Victims 01 and Savoie de Femmes”.

“Break the wall of silence”

“Violence against women is a subject that has preoccupied us for a long time. From 2019, we mobilized by securing our stations, our TER, by offering accommodation and solutions to victims in conjunction with associations. However, it is a phenomenon that is worsening and on which we must not give in to fate, ”said LR president of the region Laurent Wauquiez, quoted in the press release.

“With this innovation, we want to make things happen at the national level. We must break the wall of silence and work together. The next generation must be the one where this violence stops, ”he adds.

These small boxes, called “MonShérif”, are produced in the Rhône. In 2020, 102 women were killed at the hands of their spouse or ex. They were 146 in 2019.
