Under the auspices of the publishing house “Dienas raamat” writer Nora Ikstena’s new novel “Water Glitter” has been published. This is the author’s first novel after the world-famous “Mother’s Milk”, which saw the light of day more than five years ago. The main image of the new work is Mary – a woman who, through meeting and divorce, seeks fulfillment and discovers new horizons. –

The book was written during the year, the first pages were made in January 2020. Writer Nora Ikstena admits that the book is beautiful, but the content should be judged by the readers: “I am aware that I have broken over” Breast Milk “.

For me, it is a big step forward, and I have written the only thing I could write.

I started writing that book in 2020 in Valencia, when we didn’t even know where we were going to go, and stubbornly continued throughout the year in both Ikšķile and Norway, where my life took me, in Ērgļi and again in Ikšķile, yes, here by the same oak . ”

The artist has used Aivars Vilipsons’ drawings for illustrations by Katrīna Vasilevskis, which gives the new novel the multi-layered characteristic of Nora Iksten’s style in the visual solution as well.

Nora Ikstena lives in her family home in Ikšķile, on the bank of the Daugava. The writer has observed this natural phenomenon that gave the book its name.

“Water glitter is a phenomenon where light somehow falls on the surface of the water, and it’s just one moment you want to catch. I do not want to explain it at all, it is my inner feeling, I know what I have done, I have written, and I am very glad that I have done it without expecting a grim understanding from others of how much it is bursting inside the galaxy; how much it breaks, so much so that it breaks, ”says the author.
