Go to the museum to heal. The idea may come as a surprise, but it is gaining ground more and more. These cultural therapies can have a multitude of health benefits such as relief of chronic pain and alleviation of mental ailmentsaccording to a recent American study.
Millions of people visit the museum every year. If many go there to cultivate themselves, these visits can also improve their physical condition and mental well-being. In any case, this is what researchers from the University of Pennsylvania claim in a study, published in the journal The Journal Of Positive Psychology.
Katherine Cotter and James Pawelski have compiled and reviewed more than 100 scientific publications and reports dealing with multiple health benefits of art. They found that contact with works of art significantly reduces anxiety and stress. Recent work has thus shown that visiting an art museum has a real impact on the secretion of hormones responsible for our well-being, such as cortisol and serotonin.
