Internal Medicine Specialist from the University of Indonesia Hospital (RSUI) dr. Muhammad Hafiz Aini, Sp.PD in the webinar with the material of Lebaran Arriving, The Importance of Preventing Hypertension from an Early Age explains some tips when taking blood pressure measurements at home that need to be considered so that the results are accurate.
According to Hafiz, most people with hypertension do not feel any complaints, so hypertension is often referred to as silent killer. “Some of the common symptoms of hypertension include chest pain, palpitations, blurred vision, fatigue, dizziness, and headaches,” he said.
Doctor Hafiz explained some tips on controlling hypertension, namely with the term PATUH (Check your health regularly and follow doctor’s recommendations; Overcome diseases with proper, correct, and routine treatment; Keep a balanced diet; Strive for routine and safe physical activity; Avoid cigarette smoke , alcohol, and other hazardous substances).
Then what are the tips when measuring tension at home?
1. Before measuring, make sure to rest 2-5 minutes
2. Sitting position
3. Not drinking caffeine, taking medication regularly, and not holding back urination.
4. Measurements should be made 2-3 times with 1 minute intervals in the morning or evening for 3-7 days to get variations and average blood pressure.
5. For the use of tools, doctor Hafiz also recommends using a digital tension device (arm). Don’t forget to calibrate the tool, and don’t move a lot when measuring.
