After posting a video that went viral on Instagram, 19-year-old Elsa Majimbo has become a key Kenyan influencer.
Forbes, Vanity Fair, Vogue, The Guardian… Elsa Majimbo’s name is on everyone’s lips, and articles about her are multiplying. And for good reason, the young woman is starting to talk a lot about her. According to Marine Eluzia in Vanity Fair, she “Is without a doubt the star of social networks with the brightest rise of the year 2020.” Yet 2020 has seen some, dazzling stars, thanks to Tiktok and containment. But then, why her? Why Elsa Majimbo? Portrait.

2020 and confinement requires, Elsa has more time, and everyone too. His close-up videos are starting to please, and are turning on social networks – and in particular on Instagram and Tiktok. The timing couldn’t have been better. His monologues, his short (and cult) sentences and his little sunglasses are very popular. One of those sequences even reaches 2.7 million views on Tiktok. Suddenly, its audiences take off and it goes from 25,000 views in January, to 1.2 million in November. The same goes for its subscribers, who are now 1.4 million on they are instagram and 252,000 on son Tiktok.
More than a comedian
Elsa Majimbo’s goal was to entertain as many people as possible during this pandemic and these difficult times. To bring them joy. Its secret: it remains 100% natural, and that’s what appeals to you. Recognized as a humorist – or satirist, she has appeared in particular in Comedy Central several times in June, she also won the People’s Choice Award as Favorite African Social Star, November 9.
Meanwhile, Elsa Majimbo has become a true influencer and business woman. Having won the title of chess champion 15 times (no, it’s not ironic, as Karin Eldor recalls in his article in Forbes), it is very strategic in its partnerships. Today, she works in particular with MAC Cosmetics and for the brand Fenty. But that’s not all. Instagrammer took to song, and showcases journaling skills on her show Bedtime with Elsa broadcast on Instagram TV – and who for example hosted Jorja Smith as a guest… Wait, did you think that was enough for Elsa? Jack of all trades, she also plans to launch her podcast very soon. Crazy, right?
In any case, we hope it will bring you lots of laughs at the end of the year!
