TNI Rejects KPK’s Naming of Soldiers as Bribery Suspects

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Commander of the Military Police Center (Danpuspom) Marsda Agung Handoko admitted that the TNI did not accept the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) which named two active soldiers, including the Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Kabasarnas) Air Marshal Henri Alfiandi as suspects in the alleged bribery case.

Agung emphasized that the determination of suspects against TNI soldiers was not the domain of the KPK.

Agung conveyed this in the Rosi program, as broadcast by Kompas TV, Thursday (3/8/2023) evening.

“Yes. So for example from the KPK, we also cannot accept it. The arena is not in our opinion. According to Law 31,” said Agung.

Then, the TNI did not accept the determination of the suspect as the Head of Basarnas because they found out about it from the mass media.

“We heard from the mass media. Yes, it’s true (those 2 points that the TNI doesn’t accept),” he said.

After hearing the determination of the suspects against the Head of Basarnas and his subordinates, high-ranking TNI officials came to the KPK’s Red and White Building in South Jakarta.

Agung said that at that time, they were indeed wearing TNI striped uniforms because that was their uniform every Friday.

He said that their arrival was only to demand an explanation from the KPK regarding the determination of the suspect.

“We from the TNI asked for an explanation, what is the authority of the KPK to designate TNI personnel as suspects? Because we are in the realm of our law, in Law 31 concerning Military Justice,” said Agung.

Meanwhile, Agung dismissed the TNI as feeling offended by the Corruption Eradication Committee for the determination of the suspect as an active soldier.

Agung argued that the TNI only wanted to rectify or position their respective portions.

“Don’t interpret it that way (the TNI is offended). So don’t accept us because it’s not in its portion. So we have a portion, the KPK also has a portion. So let’s all respect that, each one has provisions,” he said.

“So the meaning actually goes there. Not in the sense that we are offended or don’t like it or anything, it doesn’t mean anything,” said Agung.

As for the TNI high-ranking officers (pati) who visited the KPK building including the Commander of the Military Police Center (Danpuspom) TNI Junior Marshal (Marsda) R Agung Handoko, Head of the TNI Information Center (Kapuspen) Rear Admiral (Laksda) Julius Widjojono, Junior Attorney General for Crime Military (Jampidmil) Major General Wahyoedho Indrajit, Indonesian Military Prosecutor General Rear Admiral Nazali Lempo, and Head of the TNI Law Development Agency (Kababinkum) Rear Admiral Kresno Buntoro.

After the meeting, Deputy Chairperson of the Corruption Eradication Committee, Johanis Tanak, apologized to the TNI Commander and mentioned the mistake of his staff because the legal process for active TNI officers was under the authority of the TNI Puspom.
