TNI Commander Supports Student Demonstration, Asks Police Not to Be Repressive

Previously, LaNyalla explained that student aspirations were an unstoppable current. The six demands submitted by the students were the voices of the common people.

Therefore, he also reminded the security forces that freedom of expression must be properly facilitated. LaNyalla admitted that he had communicated with the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit.

“I have called the National Police Chief directly, I ask the police not to be repressive towards demonstrations expressing opinions and attitudes,” he said.

Previously, the All-Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) planned to hold a demonstration at the Jakarta Presidential Palace, Monday (11/4). The plan will be followed by other student elements from various universities.

The demonstration was held in order to reject the discourse of extending the presidential term. Actions were also carried out to protest the increase in the price of basic commodities and fuel.
