JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa mentioned, the position of Commander of the Army Strategic Reserve Command (Pangkostrad) can be filled by a two-star general who is judged to have eligibility.
The position of Pangkostrad itself has been vacant for two months after General (TNI) Dudung Abdurachman was sworn in as Chief of Army Staff (KSAD).
“All the two stars who eligible (appropriate), that’s for the AD,” said Andika after a ministerial-level coordination meeting at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, Jakarta, Monday (17/1/2022).
In addition, Andika also briefly mentioned the leadership position of the Indonesian Fleet Command (Koarmada) and the National Air Force Operations Command.
He stated that the position would be filled by high-ranking officers from the Indonesian Navy and Air Force with three stars. There are also positions that will be filled with two stars.
“We’re just waiting,” he said.
Reported, department Pangkostrad still empty to date. Quoted from Kompas.id, the vacancy of the Kostrad Commander position for a long time is very unfortunate.
In addition to triggering public speculation, this has the potential to slow down organizational consolidation or the sustainability of the organization’s internal management.
In fact, Kostrad is the main central commando unit which is directly under the Army Chief of Staff so that its position is very strategic for the readiness of state defense.
The absence of high-ranking officers appointed to become Pangkostrad can also slow down the career promotion of TNI AD personnel.
“Moreover, currently there is the development of Division 3 in Eastern Indonesia, the consolidation should continue. With this vacancy, it could have an impact on the slowdown in Kostrad’s internal consolidation,” said Beni Sukadis, a researcher for the National Security Division at the Indonesian Institute of Defense and Strategic Studies (Lesperssi), Sunday (16/1/2022).

He added that the TNI was also facing a number of challenges that required the role of Kostrad, including the issue of the South China Sea or North Natuna, land borders, separatist movements, kidnappings in the Sulu and Mindanao Sea areas, South Philippines. Likewise, conflicts in various global regions require peacekeepers.
Meanwhile, during this vacancy, a number of names emerged that were predicted to be the leaders of the Army’s largest combat unit, namely the Udayana Regional Commander Major General Maruli Simanjuntak and the Siliwangi Regional Military Commander Major General Agus Subiyanto.
