HeereNVEEN – Human papillomavirus (HPV) infections are common. About 80-90% of people are infected with HPV at some point in their lives.

A (long-term) infection with HPV can cause cancer. As of this year, all boys and girls in the year that they turn 10 will receive an invitation for the HPV vaccination. Previously, only girls received a call. Because there are many questions about HPV and HPV vaccination, Tjongerschans Hospital is organizing a webinar on this subject on Wednesday 22 June.
What is HPV and why vaccinate?
During the online Tjongertalk – as Tjongerschans calls these webinars – gynecologist Margreet Miedema and physician assistant Evelien Adema talk about the HPV virus. Why are both boys and girls now being invited for a vaccine? And why is a vaccination necessary? And what about the HPV virus and the possible consequences after an infection? “We notice that there are many questions about HPV. For example, from parents who have received a call for the HPV vaccination. But also about what an abnormal result on a Pap smear can mean. We would like to tell you more about that,” says Evelien Adema.
