And eternal child celebrating his 30th birthday ! Titeuf, the famous cartoon character, created by Zep and published by Glénat editions, will celebrate his birthday in January 2023, 30 years after the release of his first album. At the time, in 1993, this album was released in black and white, with only 7,000 copies. And it’s a real bet for Grenoble Glénat editions, because Titeuf has nothing to do with the comic book heroes of the time.
A child who talks to children
Because in the early 90s the heroes were called Tintin or Lucky Luke. A comic told from a child’s point of view is rare, especially if it deals with topics that are still taboo, such as sexuality. Furthermore, Titeuf was far from unanimous at the time, and Zep took the time to find a publishing company. Glénat launches and he is right, since 30 years later, Titeuf is still very successful in bookstores.
A statue in his effigy in Grenoble
Glénat is so proud of his character that he shows it everywhere. Titeuf welcomes visitors to its headquarters in Ile-de-France but also here, in Grenoble. If you go to the Sainte-Cécile convent, don’t forget to look up to see the statue of Titeuf, just above the red door at the entrance.
