“It is important to stand in solidarity with Ukraine at this time and to express our unrelenting support in the song against the aggressor. Concert “Tīrum. “Song Road” will be the first big concert of this holiday, and at the same time it will be the first in history, with the collective choir playing music in the symbolic cradle of Dziesmusvetki – the Silver Grove.
Rejuvenation, rebirth, self-awareness, beginning and maturity through the cycles of time – these are important signs of the destiny of our people, which are reflected in the concert repertoire, and now, more than ever, these motives are essential in the destiny of the Ukrainian people.”
says director Juris Jonelis.
Sheet music for the Ukrainian national anthem is available On the holiday website. “Many choristers have already sung this anthem, so learning the musical material will not be difficult. During the concert, we will invite only those choristers who want to sing the Ukrainian anthem, because it should sound from the heart,” emphasizes Kaspars Adamson.
“Participants of the song and dance festival, both individually and as a community, have been actively involved in providing various support to Ukraine. As a community, we have been active in providing musical performances since the first days of the war – it was essential and unifying for all of us.
Even now, during the holidays, it is important to convey a message from my heart to all those who are currently on the front lines of the Ukrainian front, and to pay tribute to the Ukrainian people, thanks to whom we can now celebrate the holidays of our nation,”
says Signe Pujāte, director of the Latvian National Center.
The choirs’ big concert “Tīrums. The Song Path” will be played on the Mežaparka Grand Stage on July 6. The live broadcast of the concert will be shown on LTV and listened to on Latvian Radio.
The grand concert program includes both the legacy of the previous Christmas Carols and compositions that vividly express the Latvian identity, the freedom of the people, respect for the heritage of the ancestors, the search for the spiritual field and the revelations of the future. In the grand concert, a folk song will be highlighted as the beginning of the choir’s singing. The choir will perform folk song arrangements and original compositions inspired by folk songs, but a cappella singing will play an important role in the choir’s sound, reports the National Cultural Center of Latvia.
