Innsbruck (OTS) – Nowhere is the government’s zigzag course as evident as in education. There is still a lack of a test strategy and immediate help for students who need to catch up.
The way to the third lockdown is probably without a real alternative. With its own zigzag course, the government has made the task of creating understanding among the population, but not exactly made it easier. Even if the goal is clear – there is currently a lack of orientation on the one hand and perspective on the other, apart from the vaccination.
Schools too. Lifts open. Normal masks that are sufficient in the full train, but mandatory FFP2 masks in a half-empty gondola. If you look at the details, you will see a rolling course that creates additional uncertainty in difficult times. The majority of Austrians largely support the corona measures. Even more: many, including young people, showed themselves to be responsible, especially on this weekend. The large influx of free antigen tests is a sign of this.
Nowhere is the back and forth more evident than in the field of education. First the holidays should end later, now the school starts again on January 7th. However, again in home schooling. Apart from wearing a mask and ventilating, the Ministry of Health and Education has not yet come up with much. A test strategy is missing. Now the teachers should be tested constantly. With the students, however, you still do not know – even nine months after the outbreak of the pandemic. One thing is certain: there is no shaking during the semester break.
Despite the high levels of effort that teachers, students and parents put into, many children will have some catching up to do. The government urgently needs to offer suitable support measures here – because there is no alternative to a real support course for the education sector.
