Innsbruck (OTS) – The problems of the old year are also those of the new year. For Anton Mattle it is also about sharpening his own profile.
The workload in 2023 was high for Governor Anton Mattle. You could see that in some places too. The past year was marked by difficulties, some of which, such as inflation, were not of our own making. Some, the role and communication of Tiwag in the energy crisis are mentioned here, but yes. Mattle is an honest, meticulous worker. He’s not a showman and didn’t allow himself to be bent. He seeks dialogue and consensus. He himself says that it sometimes takes him longer to make a decision because he has to study the facts carefully. In some cases, however, the state governor took too long to do so in 2023.
Mattle exudes confidence for the new year. He has no other choice. Three important elections are coming up in Tyrol in the coming months. The ÖVP’s chances in the EU elections and in the federal government are currently not good. And the hope of appointing the mayor of Innsbruck in the future currently contains a lot of desire, but little evidence of a tailwind for candidate Florian Tursky. Aside from the elections, the challenges of the old year are also those of the new year.
Housing, transit, immensely high prices. Tyrol consistently continues the known problems. If Mattle wants to raise its profile in the coming year, and politically speaking it definitely needs to, then it will have to solve one of these problems. Or set a sustainable accent for the country. It remains to be seen whether this can be an administrative reform, which the state governor has now announced in the TT interview. What Mattle seems to be missing right now is a vision for the future. In recent months, looking backwards has apparently prevented us from looking forward.
