Tips to Prevent Dengue Fever: Bogor City Health Service Emphasizes Continuous Mosquito Nest Eradication

The Bogor City Health Service (Dinkes), West Java, is increasing public awareness to carry out continuous Mosquito Nest Eradication (PSN), in line with the increase in cases of Dengue Fever in early 2024.

Head of the Bogor City Health Office, Sri Nowo Retno, in Bogor City, Saturday, said that PSN activities are not only carried out once during the launch, but must be ongoing.

“This awareness needs to continue to be promoted. “We have to continue doing this at least once a week, so that we can completely eradicate mosquito nests, so that adult mosquitoes don’t become adult mosquitoes that can transmit dengue fever,” said Retno.

Regarding the determination of Extraordinary Event (KLB) status, according to Retno, this is still being studied by analysis from surveillance. So far the Bogor City Government (Pemkot) is still taking anticipatory steps.

Retno explained that the distribution of dengue fever in Bogor City is almost even. However, there are five sub-districts that have recorded a significant increase in dengue cases.

“The highest was in Baranangsiang Subdistrict with 18 cases, Tegal Gundil, Mulyaharja, Sukacepat, Kedung Badak. “The rest is evenly distributed,” he said.

According to Retno’s observations, the number of dengue fever cases is usually high in January and February. Then it gradually goes down when the rainy season ends.

Nevertheless, Retno emphasized that PSN must continue to be carried out so that the number of cases this month does not continue to increase.

In January 2024, there were 389 cases of dengue fever recorded with one death. Meanwhile, in February there were 456 cases of dengue fever with three deaths.

“If there is no action against mosquito larvae nests, cases will continue to increase. “Because we don’t want the death rate to increase or increase,” he explained.
