Jakarta –
Question:
Hello Doc, I want to ask about prickly heat. This feels itchy and annoying, especially on the back.
Are there any tips for avoiding prickly heat and how to deal with it?
Rubi Oktarini (female, 27 years old)
Answer:
Prickly heat (miliaria) is caused by blockage of the sweat gland ducts. To prevent and treat prickly heat, you should wear loose clothing made from material that absorbs sweat (especially 100 percent cotton).
Apart from that, avoid humid environments, bathe in room temperature water with mild soap, and use a moisturizer that suits your skin type.
If prickly heat persists after correcting this, other diagnoses need to be considered so it is best to seek treatment from a general practitioner or SpKK/SpDV/SpDVE doctor.
