Tips for Successful E-commerce: Catering to the Needs and Habits of Buyers

Asta Raudoniene, Venipak CMO

Although experts are increasingly talking about slowing economic growth and frugal buyers, the e-commerce segment can avoid this crisis. In fact, e-commerce is predicted to continue to grow globally, with many product categories yet to be seen online by consumers.

The most popular – electronic goods

The research carried out in the Baltic countries on the order of the international parcel delivery company “Venipak” shows that electronics, clothes and shoes are most often purchased on the Internet. About a third of consumers buy hygiene and beauty products, as well as household items or pharmaceutical products online.

“We have noticed that many product segments have not yet found buyers online, however, it is important to know the needs and habits of buyers before starting e-commerce. Currently, high requirements are set for online stores, including the range of products, prices and delivery method, which will become even higher in the future,” said Asta Raudoniene, Marketing Manager of Venipak.

Want excellent service at all stages

The survey of consumers in the Baltic states revealed that the majority, namely 82% of Lithuanians, 72% of Latvians and 76% of Estonians, would not return to an online store where they found low-quality goods. But this is not the only factor that buyers consider.

According to A. Raudonienes, almost half of the buyers in the Baltics indicated that they would not use an online store if the price of the goods does not correspond to the average price on the market. Another 32% of Lithuanians, 27% of Latvians and 36% of Estonians would refrain from purchasing if a small selection of goods is available. For about a third of buyers in the Baltics, excellent delivery and a choice of delivery methods, as well as an easy-to-navigate website, were particularly important.

To make a good impression, every detail counts

When you start doing e-commerce, A. Raudoniene recommends thinking over all the details right away: think not only about goods and competitive prices, but also about the platform’s functionality, aesthetics, feedback, delivery and communication with buyers.

“We must not forget about the ease of use on mobile devices, because now they are increasingly used for shopping. You should also think about the process of returning goods. Our data show that 29% of Latvians, 35% of Lithuanians and 36% of Estonians do not use this service. On average, 30% of buyers indicated that they do not use the return service, as they most often buy products from well-known brands, so it is quite possible that most buyers simply put the unsuitable product in the closet after purchase.”

It is also recommended not to limit yourself to one area. According to the representative of “Venipak”, a modern company should cover at least all Baltic countries. In addition, opportunities to trade outside your country are expanding every day. Asta Raudoniene pointed out that the growing number of e-commerce order delivery centers and the development of logistics in general ensure high-quality and fast delivery of goods around the world, so entrepreneurs do not need to make additional efforts and can focus on achieving their business goals.
