Should we wear our hair tight or loose? Sleeping with your hair tied up may be very comfortable, but it’s much worse than you might think. Sleeping with your hair loose or in a braid is a lot better. But why? We’re going to tell you!
Sleeping with loose hair or tied up?
We definitely get it: sleeping with your long locks can’t always be pleasant. Still, it’s a lot better than having your hair tied. As soon as you put your hair in a ponytail at night, this can cause hair loss. This is also called traction alopecia. Before you panic, your hair won’t fall out completely. It can only result in significantly thinning hair, especially around your hairline. This is due to the tension that is on your hair when your hair is tied up in a ponytail, for example. Your hair follicles become inflamed or damaged. Even if you don’t tie the elastic so tightly around your hair, it can still put tension on your hair. Friction between your hair and the pillow can cause split ends. Of course we want to prevent this. But how do we do this? We have some tips for you:
Tip 1: Make sure there is as little tension on your hair as possible. Therefore wear your hair loose, in a low tail or in a braid.
Tip 2: If you want to wear your hair in a bun while sleeping, use a scrunchie. Tie it loosely, because that way you prevent tension on your hair. It is best to wear your hair in a kind of palm tree. Bend forward, gather all the hair and wrap the scrunchie around it. If you have curls, you won’t get crazy mounds in your hair this way.
Tip 3: Your pillowcase can also do a lot. Buy a silk pillowcase to reduce friction and protect your hair. In addition, your hair will also shine even more. A cotton pillowcase will absorb your hair’s natural oils, which can make your locks look dry and increase the likelihood of hair loss.
Tip 4: The last tip again. If you can’t say goodbye to your cotton pillowcase now, you could also look at a silk scarf. It works the same as a silk pillowcase. Put the scarf around your hair and you wake up with a healthy haircut!
