JAKARTA, celebrities.id – Here are some healthy eating habits that will help reduce sugar intake and prevent chronic diseases like diabetes.
We are all aware of the dangers of consuming too much added sugar. Studies and experts have warned us to pay attention to the added sugars we consume in our daily diet.
Bread, canned drinks, processed foods, breakfast cereals and even packaged fruit juices can increase the risk of diabetes. Many of us no longer consume sugar in tea and coffee but still consume store-bought snacks such as biscuits, pastries, juices, pasta sauces without realizing how much added sugar we consume each day.
Consuming too much sugar can lead to diabetes and hypertension, both of which can lead to heart disease, blood vessel blockage, stroke and other complications.
However, that does not mean we should not consume sugar at all. Experts say the natural sugars in fruits, vegetables, milk are actually good for the body. because these food sources contain vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, protein and calcium which are important for our bodies.
Here are some ways to reduce sugar intake and prevent diabetes
1. Breakfast high in protein and healthy fats
Choosing a high-protein breakfast and foods that contain healthy fats help balance your hormones and increase satiety levels, reducing cravings for midday snacks.
2. Reduce consumption of packaged sauce
Packaged sauces are high in preservatives and sugar. Both of these ingredients if consumed in excess are definitely not good for the body, so it’s better to avoid packaged instant sauces and switch to natural spices such as chili and other kitchen spices.
3. Make your own snacks
There are many low-sugar snacks that you can choose from. For example, granola, oatmeal, yogurt, low-fat milk and many more. From these ingredients you can make snacks such as pancakes to fulfill the desire to eat sweet foods.
4. Reduce sugary drinks
Sweet drinks such as soda, packaged coffee, fruit-flavored drinks and others contain very high sugar levels. It is better to replace the drink with a more naturally sweetened drink such as coconut water or fruit juice.
5. Choose fruit as a source of sweet food
After replacing high-sugar foods with healthier alternatives, choosing fruit as the main source of sugary foods can help reduce excess sugar intake and help prevent the risk of diabetes. As long as the amount of fruit consumed is not excessive, of course.
