Prevention is key
It is important to check the charge status. “The battery should be checked regularly, a person can measure it himself with a tester or a multimeter, but an ordinary motorist who does not know much about it will not recognize that the end of its life is approaching, rather he will check whether the voltage is normal,” stated Marek and added: “That’s why I would recommend asking for an inspection at the service center where you take your car for regular inspections. Here, under load, they will measure its values and find out whether it can only be recharged, or whether a complete replacement will be necessary due to the end of the service life.”
The latest period when it is advisable to check the battery is autumn. You can thus combine changing shoes with an inspection, so that you do not needlessly go to the service center twice. With a bit of luck, you just need to call a neighbor to help you start the car via the cables. Other times, only the assistance service will help.
“In exceptional situations, jump-start cables can be used for resuscitation, but they must have the appropriate cross-section. When using them, people should be careful about short circuits and don’t forget to plug them in properly,” Marek warned, adding: “If that doesn’t help either, then the battery is out of service. It needs to be replaced with a new one, but I’d rather leave that to the experts.” Each model is different and if you handle it incorrectly, you could possibly throw off electronic systems or cause other more serious problems.
