TinQ stops his birthday stunt. The chain of unmanned filling stations has been around for twenty years and this week had motorists refuel in Waalwijk, among other places, for the price of 2002. The interest is many times greater than the company could have foreseen, it is said. The crowds at a number of pumps have also led to grim situations.
TinQ no longer wants to run the risk of unsafe situations for customers and staff. “Apparently, sentiment is very flammable at the moment,” the company said. The immediate reason for the decision was a grim atmosphere that had arisen at a gas station on Thursday.
It was also very busy in Waalwijk last Tuesday. People got up very early to get their turn on time. Between ten and eleven it was possible to refuel for the price of fuel from 2002. This gave the motorists an advantage of tens of euros.
TinQ had already reduced the number of gas stations where stunting would take place earlier this week. More employees and traffic controllers were also placed at the various pumps. Professional security guards were even deployed.
A spokesperson: “We deeply regret that we were unable to complete the campaign further, especially after the extra measures. The safety of both customers and staff always comes first.”
