Tinnerholm’s heels are of: “Very many tears”

Anton Tinnerholm is considered one of the best right-backs in MLS. But now the season is over for the Swede.

In yesterday’s match, when his New York City FC met Nashville SC, the former MFF defender was replaced injured after just over half an hour. Tinnerholm received the ball and suddenly he jerked and fell to the ground. At the same time, he grabbed his heel and grimaced.

– It was like someone shot me. I thought someone tackled me but then I checked behind and there was no one there. So then I realized that something was very wrong. I immediately felt that it was serious, he says.

A stretcher was carried in for the Swede but he was eventually able to jump on one leg, with the help of the medical team.

Today, the Swede has seen a doctor and it could then be stated that the tendon is off. Now surgery awaits on Wednesday.

– Three centimeters are off, just completely gone. So it will be a long damn rehab, in nine to twelve months, he says.

The long rehabilitation was a very heavy message for Tinnerholm.

– The last 24 hours there have been many tears. I have been spared from more serious injuries, but not this time. So there have been a lot of thoughts.

One day after the injury, he has not had time to think much about the future. The plan is to at least stay in New York in the near future, to make sure everything goes as it should.

– It’s easy to say that you should come back and be stronger than ever, but right now you just want to go to bed and cry a little more. Of course I think I’m going to go through that, but you have to grieve. I get to look ahead after the operation. Then we will set up a rehab plan, which is best. But I will probably do some of it in Sweden as well. The season is in its final stages so mentally it can be important to come home to loved ones as well.
