Tineke’s Farewell to Radio Veronica: Unexpected Changes and New Chapters

Tineke looked strange when she arrived at her studio in Hilversum a week and a half ago to record her weekly radio program on radio Veronica. Her team told her it would be the last.

Tineke had not yet read the email in which she was told the news. The new owner of the channel, Mediahuis, had decided that it no longer wanted to rent a separate studio and that from now on its broadcast had to be done live in Amsterdam. “And I really didn’t feel like doing that,” Tineke laughs.

She is also not keen on a new challenge in radio, says Tineke. “That depends a bit, I’m not keen on it. It was especially nice that the circle was complete with the return to radio Veronica,” she says. “But of course I think it’s a shame. I liked recording it. I went there singing and went home singing.”

She has plenty to do in the Rosa Spier House, a living and working community for older artists and scientists in Laren, where Tineke has been living since this year. “I’m having a great time here. I organize concerts and I’m very busy!”

In 1962, Tineke was the first female DJ in the Netherlands from the Radio Veronica ship. After a long career, she said goodbye to broadcaster MAX in 2022. Not long after, she was offered to do an hour of radio at radio Veronica on Saturday and Sunday evenings.
