In early February, popular dating app Tinder added new security and privacy features, including the ability to block other users. The company has just supplemented its efforts in this area with a new profile verification method. In order for the profile to be approved and have the blue verification badge next to it, users will need to take a video selfie from now on.
It looks like the video selfie will not be mandatory, but without it, the user will have no other option to get the blue badge confirming that the profile is real. Tinder felt it was important to introduce this functionality now, given the boom in artificial intelligence that makes it easy to create fake profiles and impersonate a real person.
To verify your profile with a video selfie, the Tinder app will have an option to record a video using your phone’s front-facing camera. In essence, this process is not much different from other identity verification methods that require a video selfie.
If the user has verified his profile with the help of a video selfie, “Tinder” will also give the opportunity to join the elite group “Photo Verified Cuties”, where all members have confirmed their identity in this way. However, the company adds that users may have to verify their profile from time to time with the help of a video selfie, as the appearance does change.
