CELEBRITIES Timothy Chalamet (27) sang a song during his monologue in the American TV show ‘Saturday Night Live’ in which he celebrates the end of the Hollywood strike. The 27-year-old actor joked in the song, which was inspired by the film ‘Wonka’ in which he stars, that actors are now allowed to do “shameless self-promotion” for their films again.
“Come with me and you’ll be in a world of shameless self-promotion,” Chalamet sang to the tune of “Pure Imagination,” a song from “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.” In the song he also promoted the picture ‘Wonka’, which will be released in December. He also promoted other films in which the actor plays, such as ‘Dune: Part 2’.

‘Wonka’ is the third film adaptation of the book ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ by Roald Dahl. Chalamet takes on the role of Willy Wonka in this film. It is the first time that the actor not only shows his acting skills, but also dances and sings in a picture. ‘Wonka’ contains several scenes in which the main character sings songs. Chalamet was reportedly one of the favorites for the role. He therefore did not have to audition for the leading role. Director Paul King said he only needed some old YouTube videos of performances from the actor’s high school to know that he had the singing and dancing qualities required for ‘Wonka’.
Deal
This week, actors’ union SAG-AFTRA signed a deal with the Hollywood studios. This ended the actors’ strike, which lasted four months. A three-year contract that has now been signed states that the minimum wage for actors will increase by seven percent. A bonus for successful productions has also been agreed with streaming services such as Netflix and Disney+. That earns actors and the union $40 million a year.
In addition, agreements have been made about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) by major film studios. An AI-created likeness of an actor may only be used if that person is paid for it. That amount must be the same as if the actor had actually worked on the set himself.
