In Tokyo (Japan), in 2021, the native of Versailles (Yvelines) won a silver medal in the 100m T11, setting a new personal best. Timothée Adolphe (33 years old), versatile visually impaired athlete in the para-athletics sprint events, will participate, unless injured, in the Paris Paralympic Games (August 28-September 8, 2024). With one goal in mind: gold.
Two bronze medals at the last world championships
Thanks to two bronze medals brought back from World’s Championships in the 400m and 100m T11 (the category of the visually impaired), in July 2023 in Paris, the native of Yvelin (childhood in Guyancourt and Bois-d’Arcy) already has his ticket for Paris 2024 in his pocket.
At the end of the Worlds, his state of mind was however mixed. “The Greeks (who won gold, editor’s note) benefited from great leniency”, regretted the member of Saint-Denis Emotion (Seine-Saint-Denis) after the competition.
Many observers believe that the Greek guide pulled runner Athanasios Ghavelas by the arm for several meters. A normally prohibited act and synonymous with disqualification. “I have already been disqualified eight times for less than that,” underlines Timothée Adolphe.
The sprinter started athletics in a Guyancourt club
Timothée Adolphe started athletics at the age of 10. “At the time, I was visually impaired and I found a club in Guyancourt that was willing to welcome me. They told me: ”we don’t know but we will make sure to find solutions.” For example, for the hurdle races, they put on a fluorescent slat. I then knew where to take the impulse. »
Lane 1, “the one nobody wants”, is the one the athlete prefers. Timothée also tries his hand at the high jump. “I loved sprinting. Then, when we were 13 we moved and I have not found a structure that can accommodate me. »

Global explosion in 2013
At the age of 21, Timothée Adolphe will return to athletics and compete. His performances will take him to the top level, which he did not necessarily aim for at the start. “I resume in January 2011 and in July I am preselected for the London Games of 2012. »
The year 2013 will mark its explosion on a global level. ” It is a kind of machine that is launched and which imposes itself on me”, confides the athlete, supported in particular by the Banque Populaire Val de France, which accompanies 13 para-athletes over the long term.
First Paralympic medal in Tokyo
come the JO from Rio in 2016, then Tokyo, with varying results. “In Rio, I went from a dream to a nightmare”, summarizes the one who is nicknamed the “white cheetah”. He injured his shoulder and was disqualified in the 400m final for pressing on the inside line of the lane.
“In Tokyo, I get the silver medal in the 100m with a personal best, but I am disqualified in the 400m. »

Gold in the lead in Paris
Since the beginning of his career, Timothée Adolphe has compiled no less than fifteen medals in major championshipsincluding seven European titles (over 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m) and a world crown (over 400m in 2019). Only he misses the Paralympic gold.
In 2024, Timothée Adolphe therefore intends this time to “go for the gold”. “It’s close to my heart, especially since I’ll be at home. “Going to Los Angeles in 2028 is also not inconceivable to hear it. “The day I think I no longer have the level to be medalist, I will stop. »
