According to matching German and English media reports, nothing stands in the way of Timo Werner’s move from RB Leipzig to Chelsea.
However, nothing is fixed yet, as RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff “Sky” confirms: “So far, Timo Werner has not drawn the clause from us, nor has any club sent us a transfer contract.”
There is an exit clause in Werner’s contract, which according to the “kicker” can be made effective by 50 million euros. Werner, currently the top scorer for the “Red Bulls”, had “already signaled a few weeks ago that he was busy with a transfer,” said Mintzlaff.
The 24-year-old is now the one who decides on a possible change due to his exit clause, says Mintzlaff. “It was important for us that we extend the contract with him because it is important for our young club that we don’t have a player who moves from the court free of charge.” With the exit clause, the club gave Werner the opportunity to “take the next step”.
