Timo Werner: bad news for the former Chelsea player!

Footballer Timo Werner was sadly excluded from the 2020 World Cup in Qatar after injuring an ankle ligament in RB Leipzig’s victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

The 26-year-old German striker realized his worst fear after being forced out in the first half of RB Leipzig’s 4-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Less than 20 minutes from the clock, the attacker found himself on the ground, with a squeeze on his left ankle, after playing a routine pass.

After passing scans on Thursday 3 October 2022, RB Leipzig revealed that the striker will be banned for the remainder of the calendar year.

Scans from Leipzig showed that he unfortunately tore the syndesmotic ligament in his left ankle and therefore will be out for the rest of 2022.

Since Hansi Flick took over the German national team after last year’s Europeans, Werner has been a key part of his plans, scoring 8 goals in 13 appearances.

The 55-capped international has also been in good shape at club level since leaving Chelsea to return to RB Leipzig this summer. In 16 appearances in all competitions, Werner scored nine goals and helped the team qualify for the Champions League group stage.

Germany will start their World Cup campaign against Japan on November 23, 2022.
