Former foreign minister Timo Soini says that the Finnish government should not take a position on the Palestinian issue.

Former Foreign Minister Timo Soini has been sidelined from daily politics for a long time. Despite that, he has his say about Finland’s domestic politics and the game of government as well as foreign politics.
The coming autumn will be marked by the US presidential elections. Opposite are the Republican candidate, ex-president Donald Trump and the Democratic nominee, the sitting vice president Kamala Harris.
Timo Soini says that it doesn’t really matter who wins.
– When I was able to compare during my own term as foreign minister Obama’s and Trump’s administrations, they had confusingly little difference from Finland’s point of view. We managed with both.
Kamala Harris’s trump card has been considered the abortion rights she supports and advocates. Known as a confessional Catholic, Soin has a predictable stance on Harris’s theme.
– It’s pretty sad if it (abortion rights) becomes an election victory issue. I have always been of this opinion. The issue may be significant in some US states.
Another theme that characterizes the US elections is Palestine. President Alexander Stubb commented in May that Finland will at some point recognize the state of Palestine.
SDP also demanded a week ago that Finland should take action to recognize the state of Palestine this fall.
– As an emeritus foreign minister, I say that such statements are not smart and realistic foreign policy right now. Finland should not push for the recognition of Palestine.
