European Commissioner Frans Timmermans is working on plans to allow European businesses to switch completely to electric lease cars and service vehicles, De Telegraaf writes. According to the newspaper, he will make his plans concrete around the turn of the year.
Need
The Dutchman is now more than ever aware of the need for electric commercial vehicles because of the high fuel prices and the war in Ukraine, which means that the EU member states will no longer use Russian oil.

Next week the European Parliament will vote on a ban on the sale of new cars with combustion engines by the year 2035. Many manufacturers are expected to switch completely to the production of electric cars earlier.
Sales in Europe
Last month it was announced that the sale of the same electric cars has been increasing strongly recently. Sales of both all-electric models and plug-in hybrids doubled in 2021 to a record number of 6.6 million vehicles. Specifically in Europe, sales grew 65 percent last year to 2.3 million.
In the Netherlands, too, the obligation to use electric commercial vehicles has been looked at for some time now. The cabinet wants to make a decision on this in the spring of 2023.
