Time travel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

In Hawaii there is something called “island time” that is sold to tourists as a relaxed way of life. That means: You shouldn’t worry if someone is late for an appointment or if you get stuck in traffic, as the locals tend to move a little slower and much more relaxed. It is recommended to relax, not to honk and take in the landscape. It is similarly relaxed in Animal Crossing: New Horizons to. You sometimes have to wait a few days (in real time) until you have unlocked certain tools, shops or other extras such as terraforming, which is rather negative for impatient people.

Fortunately, there is also in Animal Crossing: New Horizons the well-known mechanics of the “time travel”, with which you can skip a few days to advance faster in the game (thanks IGN).

Animal Crossing Time Travel: New Horizons – How It Works!

  1. Complete your daily goals and speak to Tom Nook
  2. Save your game
  3. Gets the system settings of the Nintendo Switch-Console and scroll down to “Console”
  4. Switches off the “Synchronize clock using the Internet” function under “Date and time”
  5. Changes the date to the following day
  6. Selects from the menu screen Animal Crossing: New Horizons and press the X key to end it
  7. Restart the game and you should now complete the next day

Animal Crossing: New Horizons according to IGN – like its predecessors – has built-in penalties for the misuse of time travel. So Nintendo recognizes that time travel is part of Animal Crossing, but does not recommend using it. IGN’s Samuel Claiborn wrote that you might be able to advance the first 15 days of the game every day to get the most important tools to work on your island. Then you can enjoy your island life in real time.

GameXplain shows you in the form of a video how it works with time travel and, interestingly enough, they have not yet been able to determine any penalties for misusing time travel. Enjoy watching this video:

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf there were several negative effects for time travel. Neighbors move away, bought beets wither, flowers wither, lots of weeds grow, your hair is messed up, snowmen disappear, items offered in the shops change.

Will you travel through time Animal Crossing: New Horizons on Nintendo Switch use, or do you try your hand at regular gameplay as the developers intended?
