Time Out Market opens in New York

Five years after its Lisbon street food market, the magazine dedicated to going out is opening this Friday, May 31, a vast dining and cultural space in Dumbo (Brooklyn).

“The best of New York under one roof”. This is the promise of the long awaited Time Out Market new-yorkais, which officially opens its doors this Friday, May 31 at 8 a.m. in the Dumbo district (Brooklyn), a stone’s throw from the famous Brooklyn Bridge.

Housed in the Empire Stores (55 Water Street), a chic shopping center housed in former 19th-century red brick coffee warehouses, with views of the East River and the Manhattan skyline, the Time Out Market occupies 2,000 m2 on two floors – the ground floor and the fifth, with a roof terrace – and accommodates 520 seats (inside and outside). It brings together 21 stands of New York restaurateurs, three bars, a stage for cultural performances and an exhibition space. The editorial team of the outing guide Time Out New York is responsible for the selection of restaurants and cultural programming.

These are above all the different corners of catering, chosen from the favorite tables of Time Out in New York, which should make the place a success. Among the selected addresses to discover at shared tables d’hôtes, we find Clinton St. Baking Company & Restaurant (known for serving the best Big Apple pancakes), Juliana’s (New York pizza legend), Reserve Cut (kosher meat specialist), Alta Calidad (creative Mexican), Miss Ada (Israeli), Jacob’s Pickles (fried chicken), Felice (pasta), DŌ (cookie dough), Avocaderia (around avocado) or Bessou (Japanese comfort food) … Either a wide range of cuisines from around the world.

Openings in Montreal, Dubai and London

This “food court” is the third that Time Out inaugurated. The first one saw the light of day in 2014 in Lisbon, in the mercado da Ribeira. It is now one of the busiest sites in the city, with nearly 4 million visitors in 2017. Earlier this month, a second project opened in Miami (South Beach), bringing together 18 stands out of 1,700 m2.

The British-born magazine launched in 1968, which now covers 315 cities around the world, does not intend to stop there: “Markets” openings are planned in Boston, Chicago and Montreal in 2019, then in Dubai ( 2020), London-Waterloo in 2021 and Prague (2022). Street food has a bright future ahead of it!
